Among all the other things rising lately like inflation, taxes, my pant size (hello, holiday weight!) I can guarantee that ecommerce sales are right there with them. Since the pandemic in 2020, ecommerce has been growing consistently with no end in sight.
But what does that have to do with you? I’m glad you asked.
If you want to get in on one of the most profitable businesses right now, it’s time to start your Shopify store.
Now this is where a lot of you will shrink back and say ‘oh no, I have no idea how to start a Shopify store! The tech is too confusing!’ or ‘I don’t have any time to do that, Catherine, I have too many other things going on!’ or ‘I would like to, but don’t have a creative bone in my body to make something to sell.’
Well don’t worry – I can debunk all of your objections with my 5 step process to create a profitable Shopify store in days without knowing any code.
Strap in – this is gonna be fun!
Step 1. Step Up Your Mind for Success
As with most things, if you go into it with the mindset that it’s going to be too hard and you’re going to fail, chances are you absolutely will. But, if you go into it with the thoughts of you can do anything and a mindset of abundance and positivity and gratitude? Well, that changes the whole thing. I believe Glennon Doyle was the one who said ‘We can do hard things.’ Yes we can – but believe me when I say that creating a profitable Shopify store isn’t actually that hard.
Step 2. Choose Profitable Products
Like I mentioned before, you don’t need to manually create anything to have a Shopify store. Many people don’t know this, but the Shopify platform can be used for tons of things – not just physical products. You can sell tickets, classes, e-books – tons of stuff on Shopify! The key here is to make sure you’re making or producing something that has an audience.
If you and your brother are the only people who would ever want to smell your Uncle Ricky’s wet socks in candle form, I don’t think that would be a great product choice. But if you and your brother wanted to sell Blackberry pies using Uncle Ricky’s award winning Blackberries, you may have a better idea there.
Step 3. Research What’s Working
Luckily, when it comes to the online world, there are plenty who have gone before us. Plenty of people have made mistakes (and been gracious enough to share them!) and then made it big. And the majority of those people have documented their rise to success. Now, all you need to do is take their successes and implement them into your own store. Let me give you an example.
Let’s say you want to create a skin care line – awesome! Take a look at what the profitable skin care line companies are doing on their websites and with their products, and then do that with your store! No need to reinvent the wheel, here, friends!
*But one important thing to note here, is that you’re not copying them right out. You’re appreciating what they have done with their products and website to make it appeasing for their ideal customers. And then, based on what is working in your industry, you apply those general ideas to your own products and website. TLDR: don’t copy – that’s crappy.
Step 4. Do It
Create the dang thing. Just do it. I like to live by the mantra that ‘done is better than perfect.’ And that is so true in the website field because your audience’s tastes are always changing. Your site may never be perfect, but it’s better to have it out there and get a few sales and adjust to get more sales than to never have launched it at all.
Step 5. Profit
Now’s my favorite part – get sales! I am naive enough to know that it’s not as simple as that. It’s tough to build up an audience, to gain that know/like/trust factor to get people to buy from you. But when you find your ideal audience on whatever platform they hang out, speak to them like you are BFFS. Personally, I like to chat with my friends about products I want to buy, then be bombarded by a sleazy salesman. Don’t you?
And that’s it. Seriously. It’s as simple as those 5 easy steps.
Building your own Shopify store doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating or make you take out a 3rd loan on your car. You can do it in less than a few minutes every day.
